The Tretyakov Gallery on the Move is a project aimed at introducing the Tretyakov Gallery to the residents of Vladivostok. A flexible variant of an interactive museum project, without the direct involvement of artworks, allowed for engaging in dialogue with the inhabitants of Vladivostok in an unexpected format, creating a hospitable public space in the familiar urban environment for conversations about the Tretyakov Gallery collection, Russian art, and the essence of a museum.
For the exhibition, a large pavilion was constructed, divided internally into thematic zones, through which visitors gained a metaphorical experience of visiting a museum. The journey began with an audio installation, gathering the voices of citizens and their impressions of the museum. Next, visitors entered a hall with a model of the museum building and a historical overview of the Tretyakov collection and legacy. The path then led through the "behind the scenes" of the painter, a zone with miniature museum halls, to a meditative room with a video installation based on the sea from Aivazovsky's works. Subsequently, visitors found themselves in a completely black space, where they sought interpretations of Malevich's famous Black Square. The exhibition concluded with a hall dedicated to 20th-century art—a mirrored labyrinth showcasing works as reflections of the symbols of their time and the viewer who observes them.
