The heroes of the exhibition in the new space of the M.A. Bulgakov Museum at Bolshaya Pirogovskaya, 35a, are 39-year-old writer and playwright Mikhail Bulgakov, who had already experienced both great fame and severe disgrace, and 19-year-old recent graduate of the theater studio, Grigory Konsky.
They met in 1930, almost simultaneously starting to work at the Moscow Art Theatre, and soon became friends despite their significant age difference. In 1932, Konsky received the role of the governor’s servant in Bulgakov's play "Dead Souls." A little later, in 1933, he was cast as Hurricane in the revived production of "Days of the Turbins." However, it was the rehearsals for the play "The Pickwick Club" that particularly brought Bulgakov and Konsky closer, as they shared a dressing room. On the day of the second premiere of "The Pickwick Club" — December 2, 1934 — Konsky is mentioned for the first time in the diary of Bulgakov's wife, Elena Sergeevna, and from that point on, he became a regular presence in the Bulgakov household and one of the first listeners of the novel "The Master and Margarita."
