The relationship between Bulgakov and Mayakovsky was complex: exchanging barbs in their works and competing, they closely monitored each other's creative output. Their worldviews, lifestyles, and literary views were so different that it's hard to imagine them as contemporaries. Despite this, they often met at the billiard table.
The exhibition, organized around the rules of a billiards game, is a journey through the biographies of these two principal Russian writers of the 20th century.
The exhibition features over 200 exhibits, some of which are being displayed for the first time. These include Mayakovsky's personal cue from the very billiard table where he played with Bulgakov; an amber pen used to write the novel "Master and Margarita"; a two-meter poster from the "ROSTA Windows" series and Mayakovsky's brushes from the time he worked on it; the first theater posters for Bulgakov's plays; a writing desk ordered by Mayakovsky from Mosdrev, and Bulgakov's famous redwood secretaire.
